Progressive Stages of Meditation on Emptiness

Tuesdays, July 31 – August 28, 7:00-9:00 pm

NBNY is pleased to offer Progressive Stages of Meditation on Emptiness by Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche as a 5-week course this summer.

Rinpoche’s book presents the key stages in the Buddhist experience of the absolute truth of emptiness. Although these stages are named after Buddhist schools that formulated them, they represent the stages in the development of an individual’s understanding of emptiness. Classes will include meditation practice as described in the book.

Required: Progressive Stages of Meditation on Emptiness by Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche. The book is available in print, digital, and audio formats on Amazon. The audio format is also available on cdbaby.

In preparation for the first class please read the Intro and Stage One: Shravaka Meditation on Not-Self. Subsequent class readings are as follows:

August 7 Stage Two: Chittamatra Mind Only

August 14 Stage Three: Svatantrika Madhyamaka

August 21 Stage Four: Prasangika Madhyamaka

August 28 Stage Five: Shentong Emptiness-Of-Other

Prerequisites: Although there are no prerequisites, these teachings assume some familiarity with the fundamentals of Buddhism.

Khenpo Rinpoche is one of the most erudite scholars and accomplished yogins of the Karma Kagyu Lineage of our day. He is known for his spontaneous songs of realization and teachings on emptiness. This book is a distillation of teachings first given in 1978. At present, he is in his eighties and living in a nunnery that he founded in Kathmandu, Nepal.

For more information, contact Allan Novick or Priscilla Shulman.
