Lojong Practice Day

Sunday, March 3, 2019
10:00 am – 4:30 pm

Lojong or Mind Training contains the essence of the great Mahayana Buddhist teachings. These Seven Points of Mind Training are attributed to Atisha (980-1052), the great Indian Buddhist teacher who brought to Tibet this systemized approach to Bodhicitta. The Root Text of the Seven Points of Training the Mind is a list of fifty-nine slogans. These profound and penetrating slogans help to develop equanimity, compassion, lovingkindness and joy for others, as well as for ourselves.

In addition to sitting meditation, we will recite the slogans, discuss them and contemplate them. The study and practice of these slogans is a very practical and earthy way of reversing our ego-clinging and cultivating compassion.

It is helpful for participants to have some familiarity with the dharma slogans, however it is not required. Here are some helpful resources: “How Lojong Awakens Your Heart” by Pema Chödrön (Lion’s Roar article) and a Lojong Teaching by Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo (Youtube video).

We will be having lunch together. Please consider bringing a bag lunch. Looking forward to seeing you.
