We are delighted that Acharya Lama Tenpa is coming to NBNY after the 2018 East Coast Winter retreat. The topic of his teaching is based on Ponlop Rinpoche’s book Mind Beyond Death. Lama Tenpa is a brilliant teacher and a close colleague and friend of Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche and we are very fortunate indeed to have him in NYC!

“When we truly know that with every ending, there is also renewal, we begin to relax. Our minds become open to the process of change. We feel we can actually touch reality and are no longer afraid of death. We can learn to live well and fully now, with the understanding that death is not something apart from life. From the Buddhist point of view, we have a choice: to direct our story of living and dying now, or to wait, closing our eyes to the message of impermanence, until death itself opens them. Since we value happy endings, why choose to gamble with the Lord of Death?”

Acharya Lama Tenpa Gyaltsen was born in Nepal and entered a monastery at the age of thirteen. In 1981, Lama Tenpa was enrolled in the first class of the Karma Shri Nalanda Institute at Rumtek Monastery in Sikkim, India, together with Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche. He completed his studies with an Acharya degree in 1991 and following his graduation taught Buddhist philosophy at the Karma Shri Nalanda Institute for two years. Under the guidance of Khenpo Tsültrim Gyamtso Rinpoche, he then entered a 3-year retreat in Pullahari, Nepal. From 1997 to 2004, Lama Tenpa Gyaltsen was the resident teacher at His Holiness the 17th Karmapa’s center Theksum Tashi Chöling in Hamburg, Germany. Furthermore, Lama Tenpa has been one of the main teachers at Nitartha Institute since 1998. Since August 2004, Acharya Lama Tenpa Gyaltsen has been a professor of Buddhist studies and Tibetan language at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado and teaches regularly at Nalandabodhi centers.
