Bhutan is a small Himalayan kingdom at the southern edge of the Tibetan Plateau, sandwiched between China (Tibet) and India, with Nepal (twice its size) to the west. It is steeped in Buddhism and home of the Drukpa Kagyu, the state religion. Druk, meaning “dragon,” the country is also known (touristically) as “Land of the Thunder Dragon.” It is a country of high mountain passes and deep valleys, a place of pilgrimage to the many temples and sites especially associated with Padmasambhava, and a trekkers paradise. Please join us in a slide show (accompanied by edibles from Southeast Asia) of Allan’s recent trip with a group sponsored by Naropa University and led by Judy Lief.
